RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG and Siemens Medical Solutions introduce intra-facility electronic health record (WebEPA)
One of Europe’s biggest e-health projects is launched

RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG will link up all of its facilities, currently numbering 46, using a web-based electronic health record. The goal of this system is to assist in enhancing the quality of care delivered to the more than one million patients seen annually by the Group. With Soarian Integrated Care (Soarian IC), Siemens Medical Solutions will provide the software for the WebEPA, as specified in the contract signed today in Bad Neustadt a. d. S. by Wolfgang Pföhler, Chairman of the Board of Management of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG, and Prof. Dr. Erich R. Reinhardt, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and President of Siemens Medical Solutions. With the WebEPA – one of the biggest e-health projects on the European health market – both partners underscore their pioneering role in patient-centered healthcare delivery across all sectors of the healthcare continuum. more

Siemens to acquire Dade Behring
Medical Solutions Group becomes leader in the growing Diagnostics Market

Siemens has signed a merger agreement with US-based Dade Behring, Inc., a leading clinical laboratory diagnostics company. Siemens intends to acquire all outstanding shares of Dade Behring by submitting a cash offer to the Dade Behring shareholders of US$77 per common share. The planned acquisition has a total transaction volume of approximately US$7 billion (roughly €5 billion). Closing is expected in the second quarter of fiscal year 2008. Completion of the merger is subject to receipt of regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.more

Fully digital hospital to bring to China cutting-edge facilities, operational excellence, patient-oriented services and employment of capital

Beijing/Munich, May 24, 2007
Shanghai’s Tongji University, a national key university directly under the State Education Ministry, Siemens and Germany-based hospital operator Asklepios Kliniken will team up to establish a joint-venture hospital under a public-private partnership structure in China. The hospital shall be launched before the World Expo 2010 and could be expanded to a capacity of over 500 beds thereafter. More than EUR 100 mn (CNY 1 bn) will be invested in the hospital which will be located in the Shanghai International Medical Zone. With this project the partners aim to establish a cutting-edge and fully digital general hospital which provides world-class healthcare services. The joint-venture agreement was signed today in Beijing in the presence of the President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao and German Federal President Dr. Horst Köhler.  more
RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG and Siemens launch major project

The RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG and Siemens Medical Solutions signed a contract just over a year ago for the construction and operation of a particle therapy facility. With the permit approval process and application hearing now underway, the high-tech project is beginning to take shape. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2007. RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG (RKA) is investing more than 100 million euros in the facility, which is being built in Marburg, Germany, and will be operated in close cooperation with the Giessen/Marburg University Hospital. more

Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) selects Soarian MedSuite Health Information Solution from Siemens

Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) and Siemens have signed the first partnership agreement for the advanced and complete healthcare IT systems syngo Suite (RIS/PACS) and Soarian MedSuite Hospital Information System (HIS) in Saudi Arabia. The solutions will connect the hospital’s clinical-administrative workflow with the diagnostic-therapeutic processes in radiology. This will allow DSFH to easily manage administrative and clinical processes and drive towards increased efficiency, productivity, and quality of care across the healthcare continuum. Siemens will also provide comprehensive service for several years. more

The acquisition of Bayer Healthcare's diagnostic division by Siemens Medical Solutions has been completed. Bayer Diagnostics and Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC), acquired in July 2006, were merged into a single business unit on January 1, 2007. The new entity, "Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics," is a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. and employs more than 8,000 people worldwide. Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics, headquartered in Tarrytown, N.Y. and Los Angeles, CA, holds a No. 2 position in the worldwide immunodiagnostics market.  more
