IT-Infrastructure |
IT has become a substantial part of the system “healthcare” as well as electronic communication. Both are business critical now, they have to adapt to business needs – even though these might be changing rapidly. To fulfill this, we have to establish a new networking and have to think at least in open hospitalwide services instead of closed applications. Siemens has to position itself as a network of tightly coupled branches, where each of them focuses and concentrates on special (core) competencies.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is committed to help Customers to establish a more flexible and longer value chain for IT infrastructure. Dynamic data center and mobility are our core focus in general especially in the healthcare segment. But - just delivering products isn´t enough today.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers also integrates strategic product partners into a hospitalwide IT-infrastructure-solution.
We have identified certain trends in the healthcare-segment:
Increasing Workplace Flexibility
Due to increasing administration costs and extended service level agreements the variety of workplaces shall be reduced and the devices have to be standardized as far as possible. At the same time there is an increasing need for mobility. Data should be available wherever the patients are. Combining these requirements we have defined the concept of “frontend flexibility”. Solutions are: mobile care-management supported through server-based computing in combination with innovative products.
Workflow Optimization
Optimizing the in-clinic workflows is one of the most important goals in a hospital today.
Therefore applications have to collaborate in a new way and IT has to support this in the best manner. Furthermore cross section topics, e.g. RFID, management/ archiving of documents and support of telematic services gain more importance.
Backend Harmonization
To increase the efficiency of the data center, it is necessary to establish structures which offer more flexibility and better support of changing business processes. It is inevitable to reduce isolated spare capacity within the storage environment and to increase the utilisation of servers. The definition of server- and storage pools will allow distributing the storage capacity and computing power in a much more dynamic way. We call it “backend harmonization”. This runs within the framework of the dynamic data center concept and is accompanied by tools/ methods like ITIL, e-Runbook and data center management.
These trends are just the surface of a complex three-dimensional system, because we have to consider that there are lifecycle services (operating concepts, integration, implementation, and strategy), running vertical to those trends and original applications. The complete complex can be painted as a cube model.
IT is not just a bunch of products any longer, but a mission critical system, which should have expert guidance available at any time. Fujitsu Siemens Computers can help with that guidance.

Customer Benefits |
| Mobile Healthcare |
Mobile employees require immediate access to up-to-the-minute data. This is also true in the area of healthcare, where surgeons, doctors, nurses and other specialists need secure real-time access to patient data such as x-rays, blood tests or personal information.
Close cooperation with key partners such as Siemens Medical means that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is ideally positioned to provide IT mobility components for a wide range of mobile hospital solutions
We offer mobility and help to increase quality of care and efficiency of processes.
Scenario: electronic patient records at the point of care |
Doctors call up patient data on their ultra-portable LIFEBOOKs or STYLISTIC notebook PCs via WLAN
Anesthetists who are not present during the consultation can submit their report electronically and distribute it to all colleagues in advance
Doctors use a STYLISTIC notebook PC in the consulting room or at the bedside to show patients their x-rays or the results of their MRI scans
Senior doctors can follow consultations online from their office or from another location
The Mobile Healthcare solution makes it possible to increase efficiency by up to 25% (time saved per day per user: between 30 minutes and 1 hour). As well as the positive effect this has on costs, it also means experienced doctors‘ valuable time is freed up for more important tasks
Specific benefits: |
Better support of patient orientated processes
Reliable, secure provision of important patient data in a clearly legible and easily usable format
Streamlined processes and workflows: lab results, radiology reports, etc. are immediately available online
Location-independent access to all key patient information
Requests can be sent to the lab or physiotherapist, and appointments can be booked, even during the consultation
